Mathew Sylvester - Business Intelligence & Analytics Manager
“It’s open and honest. Directors are more than happy to have a conversation.”

Mat had been working with an outsourcer in Business Intelligence when he decided to join Hermes. So what made him take the leap after 15 years? “You get the chance to run with ideas;” says Mat, “Hermes is quite fast-paced and open to new things.” Since joining, Mat’s been part of a fast developing team that partners the rest of the business: “We do insight and analysis, working with Customer Experience, the hubs and the depots; looking at problem points. At the moment, I’m working on claims where we lose lots of money. Looking at how things go missing and how to stop that.”

Two years in and Mat is enjoying life: “In my area, we have an open approach; we’re all in it together. I’ve also got the opportunity to make a difference – to grow, customer experience and cost savings.”

Meanwhile, Mat has been exposed to some brand new experiences, including mentoring graduates and developing himself through the Common Purpose Leadership Programme: “The stuff that HR gives you the chance to get involved in is great. I’ve never had these opportunities before. It’s nice to be invested in.”

Quotes from Mat;

“I’ve never known a company that puts as much into its employees. The level of engagement from the business, the chance to develop and push ideas through – it’s brilliant.”

“For me, there’s the opportunity to make a difference”

“In my area, we have an open approach – we’re all in it together. There’s no ivory tower.”
